Features:
Wagon Trail House is unique because of the 10-inch thick exterior walls, which were built from Rastra Blocks. Rastra Blocks, similar to Cempo Blocks are a concrete composite system that gives one unique aesthetic features and an insulative value of R-19+. The design of this home was to try and blend the house into the hillside it is anchored to, as well as embrace the view afforded by it's location. Much of the rock that was in the landscaping of the house and driveway was generated from the excavation of the house. With passive solar design in mind, we extended the overhang over the south facing window wall to allow for shade in the summer months, yet allow for solar gain in the cold Montana winter months. A continuing theme throughout the home was the use of recycled materials: crushed glass and fly ash was used in place of sand, recycled wood used throughout for structure and trim.
