The goal for this project
was to try and make the structures look as though they had been there
for 100 plus years. The pallet of materials we used was fundamental yet
sublime. We used recycled timbers and barn-wood, mixed with rock and plaster.
The natural tones of the aged wood, rock and plaster, and use of old world
craftsmanship came together to create a warm, comfortable home. The scale
of building to the sight is crucial, to allow the two to blend together.
The structures were built with the use of "Cempo Blocks", an
insulating concrete form. The windows are all cedar wood windows. The
roof is a custom concrete tile with a staggered pattern. It was a design
/ build project which we worked very closely with the owners to help them
realize their dream home in Montana, a home to last for centuries.
